Brisbane Music Industry Panel

Lectures and tutorials are over, but don't forget that in the lecture time
in week 13 (Wednesday May 31st, 10am) we have the music industry panel.
Guests will include:

Paul Curtis (Regurgitator manager/Valve Records)
D.J. Katch (Resin Dogs/Hydrofunk Records)
Grace Nye ('The Inconvenience Party', 4ZZZ)
Dave Cuthbert (4ZZZ Music Co-ordinator)
Wendy Tucker (Qld Promotions Manager, SonyBMG)

Topics we might cover (although, the questions are of course up to you) include:

*The role of the music industry and mainstream and alternative media outlets as mediators between music performers, producers, and fans.
*The affect of new technologies on music consumption, for example mp3, blogs, podcasts etc.
*CD, poster, and online art as visual communication adding further layers of meaning to music.
*The history of the Brisbane music scene since The Saints and The Go-Betweens, and the role of place in musical production and consumption.
*‘Active’ fandom versus ‘passive’ music consumption; for example, those fans who actively engage with music (create websites, join online forums, publish fanzines, create mash ups, become musicians or enter the music industry).
